Jewish Public Affairs Forum

J Street Eugene chair Joshua Shulruff spoke on behalf of J Street at the Jewish Public Affairs Forum's January gathering: One Israel: Many Ways to Support Her.  Many thanks to the Jewish Federation of Lane County for including us and to everyone who attended.

On May19th, 2011, Congressman Peter DeFazio was a guest of J Street Eugene at Temple Beth Israel, speaking on The View from the House in 2011: Reflections on the Changing Landscapes of National and Global Politics.

Jews, Brews, and Election News

Following the mid-term elections, we gathered at Cozmic pizza for food, drink, and advocacy.  We reviewed the political situation and generated a substantial number of handwritten letters to our Members of Congress.  Thanks to all who attended!

Bradley Burston in Portland

Renowned Israeli commentator Bradley Burston discussed “Pro-Mideast in America: Getting Past ‘Pro-Israel’ and ‘Pro-Palestine’” on October 28th, 7:00 PM at Bridgeport United Church of Christ/Shir Tikvah in Portland.

Mr. Burston is a columnist for Israel's Haaretz Newspaper, and Senior Editor of Haaretz.com. During the first Palestinian uprising, he served as Gaza correspondent for The Jerusalem Post. He was the paper's military correspondent in the 1991 Gulf War, and in the mid-1990's, he covered Israeli-Arab peace talks for Reuters. He is a recipient of the Eliav-Sartawi Award for Mideast Journalism, presented at the United Nations in 2006. Encounter Point

We were pleased to present two screenings of the film Encounter Point in May in association with Oregon Hillel and Temple Beth Israel's Community Education Program, a screening in June with First Christian Church, and a screening in July with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Eugene.  Many thanks to all of you who joined us for the screenings and the lively discussions that followed.

J Street Eugene Kickoff

On Feb 4th, 2010, J Street Eugene launched our local field effort!  Many thanks to the 59 of you who joined us at Temple Beth Israel to learn about J Street, to watch a webcast from Jeremy Ben-Ami, to speak candidly about Israel, and to make plans for the future.  

Similar events took place in 20 cities around the country (see pictures here), and nearly 2,000 people attended, making the kickoff of J Street Local the largest pro-Israel, pro-peace event in American history!

January 1st, 2012 The Register Guard published an op-ed by J Street Eugene steering committee member Rabbi Maurice Harris.

October 15th, 2011 The Jewish Review interviewed J Street President and Founder Jeremy Ben-Ami in advance of his October 23, 2011 appearance in Portland.

February 27th, 2011 The Jewish Review covered our event with Carinne Luck and Gordon Gladstone at Temple Beth Israel.

August 1st, 2010 The Jewish Review published opposing op-eds by Alan Dershowitz and Jeremy Ben-Ami.

March 2nd, 2010  The Register Guard published a guest viewpoint by Joshua Shulruff of J Street Eugene in response to a piece by a representative of the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network.

February 26th, 2010   A number of letters to the editor regarding J Street Local kickoffs in Oregon, including one from Joshua Shulruff of J Street Eugene, were published in The Jewish Review.

February 11th, 2010 The Jewish Review covered J Street Portland's kickoff.
