Palestinian Perspectives on the Path to Two States: A Conversation with the American Jewish Community
Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 7:00pm
Temple Rodef Shalom
2100 Westmoreland Street
Falls Church, VA 22043
Ending conflict between Israelis and Palestinians will not be easy. Gaps between the societies remain, but there are many on both sides committed to forging a path that assures freedom and dignity for both peoples. J Street is dedicated to exploring the steps on this path that will greatly benefit Israel. We are pleased to offer an opportunity to hear and respond to the views of three prominent Palestinians who work in the DC area.
The panelists will reflect on daily life in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza, and on Palestinian visions of a sovereign state alongside Israel. We will discuss the impact of the Palestinian Authority's institution-building program, and explore how Americans and Israelis might better understand a turbulent year as it plays out on the ground in 2012 and beyond.
Pent-up demands for fundamental change are sweeping through the entire Middle East. As events transform the lives and hopes of Israelis and Palestinians, Temple Rodef Shalom hosts this J Street DC Metro program to engage with authentic, forward-looking Palestinian perspectives on achieving peace and security for Israel and Palestine.
Introductory Remarks: * Ori Nir, "The Importance of this Conversation for Israelis" Spokesperson, Americans for Peace Now (former Ha'aretz and Forward journalist)
Panelists:
* Nadia Bilbassy-Charters, Senior News Correspondent, Middle East Broadcasting (MBC-TV);
* Gregory Khalil, President and Co-Founder, The Telos Group (former advisor to the Negotiating Support Unit in Ramallah);
